Eric was born in 1914 in Blean, a village near Canterbury, Kent. In 1911 his parents, Stephen William and Elizabeth, were living in Bromley, Kent with Eric’s brother Stephen, born in 1905. Eric’s father was a grocer. He died in 1929 aged 48.
Eric married Alice Emily Hewitt in Warwick in 1936. They had two children Brian John (1937-2013) and Pamela born in 1940 a few months before her father died.
His mother, Elizabeth, died in 1947 aged 69. His wife, Alice, died in 1984 aged 74.
