Patrick was born in 1926 in Southam. Patrick’s father, Joseph (1900-1971), was born into a large farming family in Morton Morrell. He married Annie McGuirk (1904-1972) in Warwick in 1923.

By the 1939 census the family were living at 1&2 Chapel Court, Friars Street. Patrick’s father was a general labourer. Patrick’s two sisters are recorded as living with their parents at this time, Annie (1928-2005) and Mary (1927-1981). Patrick also had two brothers John (1924-1999) and Peter born in 1933.
