Frank was born in Leicester in 1878.

The family were still at 82 Conduit Street at the time of the 1891 census but Frank now had 2 younger brothers, Thomas (8) and Robert (6).

By the 1901 census, the family had moved to 4 Stoughton Street, Leicester. Robert was now a newspaper overseer and the family had a live-in servant. Frank was working as a cabinet maker on his own account, his sister was a kindergarten mistress and his brothers were a photographer’s apprentice and a printer/compositor.

Frank married Alice Gibson in around 1906 and at the time of the 1911 census the couple were living at 8 Uppingham Road, Leicester.
