Albert was born in October 1892 in Warwick. He was one of the oldest of ten children. He was baptised at 15 May 1895 at Stratford on Avon, Holy Trinity Church along with siblings George William and Ethel. They were living at 4 Ryland Street, Stratford on Avon at the time.
In 1911 the family, with six of the children, were living at 9 Barrack Street, Warwick. Albert’s father George was a Tailor and Albert aged 17 was recorded as being an unemployed gardener.
