Frederick was born in Warwick. His father George was a sugar boiler. Frederick was the youngest son of eight children. He had one younger sister Alice, two older sisters Annie and Fanny and three older brothers William, John and George.
In 1911 Frederick was living with his oldest brother William, three of his brothers and sisters and his widowed mother at 46, Woodhouse Street.
