Edward was born in Warwick in 1872. In 1901 he was stationed at Wrexham Barracks and was married to Millie (born in Wrexham) and they had two children George born in 1897 and Edward born in 1900.
According to the 1911 census the family were stationed in Agra, India and Edward was a Sergeant. Edward’s eldest son George aged 14 is also registered as a soldier and subsequently served in the same battalion with him in France.
There were more children: Harold born in Wrexham in 1902, Dorothy born 1906, Nellie 1907 both born in India. Lillian Rose their youngest child was born in June 1914 in Weymouth just 4 months before Edward was killed.
Millie died in Wrexham in 1964 aged 89.

Due to a long career spanning 22 years in the military, including 15 years in India, Edward also received medals for long service, service in India and good conduct.
