William was born in Warwick in about 1892. His parents were George and Annie.  He was the second son of five brothers. His elder brother was George and his younger brothers were Charles, Albert and Tom. In 1901 the family were living at 10 Market Place, Warwick and William’s father George was a boot salesman.

William married some time between 1911 and 1916.  He and his wife Lily had three children, William born 1916, Leonard born 1918 and daughter Lily born in 1920 a few months after her father had died.  William’s mother,  Annie died in March 1920 a few months before him.

Lily remained a widow and according to the census of 1939 she lived at 96 Miller’s Road, Warwick and worked as a hospital cleaner. She died in 1969 aged 75.

William is commemorated on Lily’s father’s grave in Warwick Cemetery, although now illegible, the inscription reads:

In Loving Memory of Thomas Logan who departed this life 5th Jan 1914 aged 43 years.
Also of WILLIAM MARSHALL dearly loved son in law of above died Aug 17th 1920 aged 27 years

According to the 1911 census William aged 19 was a private in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and was stationed at the Budbrooke Barracks.
