Cecil was born in Warwick in 1896. He was baptised at All Saints Church on 27th August 1896. Cecil was the second youngest of six children, Lily was the eldest then Arthur, Earnest and Bertie and then Walter the youngest.

In 1911 the family were living at 16 Charles Street and Cecil’s father William was a painter.
