George was born in Barford in 1876 and was baptised in there on 11th June 1876. His father William was a shepherd.

George was one of 13 children although 6 had died before 1911. He had one older brother William and three older sisters Louisa, Esther and Sarah and two younger sisters Ada and Lucy.

On 26th December 1904 he married Annie Matilda Chambers. They had two children Cecil George born 1906 and Walter William born 1907. According to the census of 1911 the family were living in Wasperton near Warwick and George was working as an estate labourer.

Annie Matilda died in Warwick in 1938 aged 58.
