Daniel was born in Q3 1895 in Bascote, in the Southam district of Warwickshire.  He was baptised on 28th October, 1895 at Long Itchington, Warwickshire.

His parents were Charles (1858-1937) and Emma (1860-1936) and his father worked as a gamekeeper so the family moved around a lot, working at various estates in the Midlands. The family were living in Studley in 1891, in Meriden in 1901 and in Eathorpe in 1911 – when Daniel was a Gamekeeper’s Assistant to his father.

The Cunnington’s were a large family and Daniel was the eighth eldest of twelve children. He had eight sisters – Mabel, Elizabeth, Grace, Ada, Olive, Maud, Emma and Florence and three brothers, William, Daniel and Clements.

Daniel was not married so left his effects to his father, Charles.

Daniel’s eldest brother, Charles, was also killed in the war.
