James Albert Cox was born on 1st October 1887 and baptised on 1st January 1888 at St Mary and St John Church at Cowley in Oxfordshire.  His parents were John William and Martha Louisa Cox and John was a ‘brick labourer.’

James’ family was a large one.  He was the second of 11 children but his older brother, George who was born in 1886 died in 1901 so James was the eldest of his other siblings.  They were Mildred Louisa (b. 1889), John Edward (born and died in 1892), Ada Florence (b. 1894), Elsie May (b. 1896), Henry (b. 1898 but died 1901), Ethel Rose (b.1900), another child names John Edward (b. 1903), Arthur Leonard (b. 1904) and Frank (b1905).

In October 1909, James married Ann Elizabeth Mortiboys and in 1911 the couple are living at 18 Willis Street, Aston but have no children.  James is working as a Salesman/Book keeper.

From 1891 to 1911, the records show that the family lived in Aston, Birmingham but at the time of James’ death, his wife had moved to Warwick.  She was living in Linen Street at the time of the above Warwick Advertiser article and then moved to St Paul’s Terrace when she applied for James to be included on Warwick War Memorial.
