Bromage, Arthur Edward

Arthur Edward Bromage was baptised on 5^th September 1897 at St Paul’s Church.  His parents were Thomas and Louisa Bromwich.  The family were living at 15 Wallace Street at the time.

By the time of the 1901 census, the family were living at 26 Bowling Green Street, although father Thomas is not listed on the census form.  The family was comprised of Louisa (45), daughter Sarah (24) and sons Thomas (27), William (20), Charlie (10), Louis (9) and Arthur (9).  William is described as a soldier

Thomas is listed in the 1911 census along with wife Louisa and Charles (17, and a Stockman), Arthur (13, and a scholar) and niece Louisa.  Interestingly, Arthur signed the census form.  The family were living at Old Park, which is a farm just outside Warwick.

Arthur married Elizabeth Helena Shirley in the last quarter of 1917.  The couple had a daughter, Florence May who was born a year later, in 1918.  Arthur’s ‘soldier effects’ of £3 11s 4d were left to Elizabeth.

Brothers, William and Charles also fell so the family lost three sons and all are commemorated on the War Memorial at Hatton Church on the Birmingham Road, just outside Warwick

Thomas senior, died on 8^th October, 1924, and mother Louisa died in 1930 and both are buried in Warwick Cemetery.
