Charles was born in Warwick on 13th October 1893 and was baptised on 17th December at St. Mary’s Church. Charles was one of seven children although a younger brother Frank and a younger sister Daisy died as children. He had an older brother James and an older sister Violet and two younger brothers Arthur and Lester.

According to the 1911 census the family were living at 23 Brook Street, and working in the family business.  Charles aged 14 was working as a Grocer’s Boy.

Reported – “Pte Biddle who was transferred from the Warwickshire to the Wiltshire Regiment, was wounded in the trenches but is now making a good recovery. He is a Warwick man, and there are eight Biddles with the colours”
