Thomas was born in February 1874 and baptised at St Michael’s in Coventry city centre on March 27th. His father Henry was a weaver and they lived on Gosford Street.
Jane died in 1888 and Henry remarried. The 1891 census records him living with his wife Martha and two sons, Thomas (17) and Frederick (15), a son in law, John Wilkins (26) and daughter in law Minnie Wilkins (17). Henry was recorded as a silk ribbon weaver and Henry as an apprentice watch (?)
On March 4th 1905 Thomas, aged 31, married Helen Oliphant (25) at St Mark’s Church in Coventry. At the time of the marriage they were living in Stoney Stanton Road.
In 1911, Thomas and Helen were living at 12 Tower Street, Coventry with their son Frederick Arthur (5) and recently born daughter Lizzie. Thomas was employed as a tool storekeeper in the motor industry. One child had died.
The 1914 Spennell’s Trade Directory lists Thomas among the residents of Warwick, living at Pickard Row, described as a storekeeper.
