Webb, Robert

Robert was baptised on the 7th December 1884 at St Paul’s, Warwick.

At the time of the 1891 census, Robert was living with his parents and 3 older siblings (Hannah, Charles and William) and 2 younger siblings (James and Adelaide) at 6 Linen Street, Warwick. His father was a bricklayer’s labourer and his mother, who was from Ireland, was a laundress. There was also a 2-year old visitor called Charlotte in the household on census night.

In 1901 the household at 6 Linen Street consisted of John and Millicent, Robert, now aged 16 and working as a “well sinker”, James, Adelaide and Hope. John was then a Coal merchant’s carter and Millicent was still a laundress.

Over the course of their marriage, John and Millicent Webb had twelve children although three didn’t survive. John died in 1902 aged 51.

Robert married Elizabeth Spicer in 1903 and they had three children, Hilda born in 1904, Harry born in 1906, and Hope Evelyn born in 1909. At the time of the 1911 census they were living at 33 Avon Cottages, Avon Street, Warwick and Robert was working as a Yardman at the Gas works. Robert’s widowed mother was living with his sisters Adelaide and Hope at 14 Market Street, where she died on 5th March 1917
