Charles was born towards the end of 1888 and baptised on the 3rd February 1889 at St Paul’s Church. He was the first of Walter and Mary’s three sons.

Charles’s father had his own greengrocery business at 32 Crompton Street and the family continued to live there for the next 30 years.

In 1911 Charles (22) was working with his parents and younger brother Walter Henry (18) in their greengrocer business, while Alfred Frances (20) worked as a butcher’s assistant.

In July 1913 Charles married Jane Dawson and they lived at 51 Woodhouse Street. They had two children, Margaret Evelyn, born in 1914 and Charles Walter, born in 1916.

Charles worked as a baker at Pratt’s Bakery on New Street, Warwick.

Charles’s brother Walter Henry Inkerman joined the Worcester Regiment and died in France on 26th October 1917.

Walter Snr died in September 1924 and Mary died in May 1926.
