George was born in Warwick in 1892, to Thomas and Kate Taylor.

At the time of the 1901 census, his siblings were Rynah (12), John (11), Thomas (6), Gladys (4) and William Henry (8 months). The family were living at 70 Saltisford, Warwick and Thomas Snr was employed as a journeyman baker.

By the 1911 census the family had moved to 5 Victoria Terrace, Saltisford and there was a fifth son, Frank, aged 6. Thomas Snr was employed as a baker in a Baker and Confectioners shop, Rynah was an assistant in a florists shop, John was a clerk in a cycle dealers, George was employed as a gardener in a nursery and Thomas was an assistant in a stationer’s shop.

George married Catherine Laetitia Warwick in March 1915.  Pictured on his wedding day:

 

 

 

 

 

George and Catherine had one daughter, Nora Lillian Taylor (b. 2nd September 1915).

Catherine went on to marry again – in 1922 to James R Langley.

This piece in the Warwick Advertiser 23rd December 1916 tells us that George was injured and was being treated at a hospital in Edinburgh:
