William was born in Warwick in the third quarter of 1896.

At the time of the 1901 census, the family lived at 93 West Street and consisted of Arthur and Jane and children George (7), William (4) and Millicent (1). Arthur was employed as a plumber.

In 1911, the family were living at 3 Swan Street where his father now ran his own plumbers shop.  Arthur (37) and Jane (36) had 9 children, all of whom were living with their parents: George Arthur James (17), William Harold (15), Amelia (11), Albert Victor (9), Elsie Gertrude (8), Bert Augustus (6), John (3), Frank Ernest (2) and Robert Eric (1). Jane assisted Arthur in the business and George was Arthur’s apprentice. William was employed elsewhere as a Grocers Clerk.

At the time of William’s death, his father was a Councillor.
