Leonard was baptised at St Paul’s, Warwick on 5th January 1896. At that time his parents were living at 30 Linen Street, Warwick and his father was working as a grocer’s assistant.

In 1901 the family were living at 6 Theatre Street and consisted of St John and Ada (recorded as Ann E), sons Leonard (5) and Leslie (1) and daughter Hilda (3). They had a boarder, James Caseley, who was also a grocer’s assistant.

In 1911 the family were living at 35 High Street. St John was still working as a grocer’s assistant and they had a boarder who was an assistant in a shop selling baby linen. All three children were at school.

Leonard Seaman was a distinguished pupil at Warwick – achieving the rank of prefect as well as being a member of the First XV Rugby team of 1912:

Whilst a Second-Lieutenant, L J C Seaman was wounded on August 27th 1917 but returned to fight and was killed in 1918.
