George was born in Salford, Manchester in 1882. His father, John Beasley Sabin was born in Kenilworth.  His mother, Mary Ann was born in Pinley Green, Warwickshire.  He had three sisters and one brother – Annie (1882-1969), Mary A (b1885), Ruth (b1887) and John William (b1889).

According to the 1891 census, the family were living at 3 Farm View, Clapham Terrace East, Leamington Spa.  The family then consisted of John and Mary Ann and their children Annie (9), George (8) – both of whom were born in Salford and also Mary Ann (6), Ruth Vincent (4) and John William (2) – who were all born in Kenilworth.

By 1901, the family were living in Myton Crescent but George himself is not listed on the census.  He married Clara Sharp at Sculcoates in 1907, in Hull and by 1911 was living at 20 Park Terrace, Cave Street, Hull with his wife and two children – Lily (2) and Ruth (1).  Three more children followed – Richard in 1912,  George Lee Jnr in 1913 and Hilda in 1914 – all of whom were born in Hull.

Back in Warwick, by 1911, George’s parents had moved to 12 Mill Street
