Rodenhurst, William Lloyd

William Lloyd Rodenhurst was born in 1890 in Hyde, Cheshire. By the 1901 census the family had moved to Myton, between Leamington and Warwick. William’s father John was a gardener and William was to follow in his footsteps and also became a gardener. William was the third of John and Matilda’s children and had an older sister, Maud and an older brother, Richard and 6 younger siblings, including a set of twins, at the time of the 1901 census.

By the 1911 census, John and Matilda had had 11 children, of whom 10 had survived. The eldest, Maud and Richard, were no longer living at home. The remaining family were living at Leam Cottage, Warwick Road, Myton. William’s brother Norman was working as a groom and the rest were at school.

On 26th September 1914 William married Eleanor Elizabeth Saul at St Mary’s, Warwick. The address given for both of them on the register is 62 Leycester Place and William is recorded as a soldier. Their daughter Sadie Dorothea was born in 1916 after her father had died. Eleanor married Earnest William Clarke in 1920 and their daughter Joan was born in 1921.  Sadie died in 2005 aged 89.
