Francis was baptised on 11th June 1890 at St Paul’s, Warwick. His parents were living on West Rock, Warwick and his father Joseph was a carpenter.

In 1901 Joseph and Eliza were living at 12/10 North Rock, Saltisford, Warwick with sons Albert (27) and Francis (11), daughter Bertha (17) and a boarder who was working as a wheelwright. Eliza and Bertha worked as laundresses, from home, while Albert was a general labourer.

In 1911 Francis was living with his parents, his older brother Albert and a lodger at 86 Coventry Road, Warwick. He was working as a motor mechanic as was the lodger, George Voisey.
Joseph and Eliza had had 10 children but only 4 had survived.

Francis’s father died in March 1918 aged 77, just 3 months after his son.

This notice of Francis’s death suggests that his mother had moved to Priory Terrace, Waller Road, by 1917.

Francis joined the Royal Army Service Corps in Birmingham in November 1915 just for the duration of the war. His skills as a motor mechanic were probably in high demand.
