Thomas was born in Warwick in October 1878. He was baptised at the same time as his brother William at St Paul’s Church on 19th February 1882. He was the eldest of seven children. He had three brothers John, William and Alfred and a sister Harriet. He also had two half sisters Emily and Ethel. His father also Thomas married Ellen in 1896 after his first wife Martha had died aged 40 in 1894.

Thomas married Amy Annie Worrall on the 26th December 1903 at St. Mary’s Church Warwick. He had three children, a daughter Amy who was 10 when he died and two sons Thomas and John aged 7 and 4.

According to the 1911 census the family were living at 20 Bridge Street, Emscote, Warwick and Thomas worked as a brewer’s labourer.

In June 1917 Amy remarried – to John William Barber and they had a son Alfred born in 1918.

Thomas joined the King’s Royal Rifle Corp in May 1915 at the age of 37 and had only served a few months before he was killed.
