Owen, Reuben P

Reuben was born in Warwick in 1879. He was baptised at St Paul’s Church on 5th October 1879. Reuben was the youngest of six children. His father was an army pensioner and had served in India during the Mutiny of 1857. He married Mary in Lahore, India (now Pakistan) in 1861. Mary’s first husband Thomas Litchfield had died in Lahore in 1860. They had one daughter (Reuben’s half sister) Henrietta born in 1858.  Reuben’s father died in 1902 aged 76. His mother died in 1904 aged 71.

Reuben married Rosina Ellen Farley on 3rd January 1909 in Limehouse, London. There were no children. In 1911 Reuben and Rosina were living at the Sir John Franklin Public House, 48 Narrow Street, Limehouse London. Reuben was a business assistant and his wife was the Beerhouse Keeper. The pub was closed in 1914 and after the war became a private house. In 1915 they were living in Glaskin Road, Hackney. Rosina died in Hammersmith, London in 1952 aged 85.

The application for Reuben to appear on Warwick War Memorial was completed by Mrs James, The Cottage, Myton House, Warwick.  It is not known of her connection with Reuben – perhaps she was his sister.  Any information would be gladly received
