Percy James Mason was born in 1891 and baptised at Frankton Parish, Warwickshire on 6th September 1891.

At the time of the 1891 census the family, living on a farm in Frankton, consisted of parents Edward (39) and Sarah (37) and their children Mary (13), Edward J (10), Kate E (7), Theresa (5), Ethel (2) and baby Percy (2 months).

By 1911, Percy was the eldest child living at home at Old Park, Wedgnock, Warwick. He was working as a shepherd and the household consisted of his parents, Percy, and younger siblings Lottie (17), Joseph (16) and Frederick (11).
