Charles Alfred Kelsey was the eldest child of John Inkerman Kelsey and his wife Mary Ann. Charles was born in 1899, a twin along with Walter Henry Kelsey who died just a few months after his birth.
John Kelsey died in 1910, and in 1911 Charles and his widowed mother, younger sister Margaret and younger brother George were living at 41 Crompton Street. Charles was still at school.
