Date of birth: 1891

Parents: William and Sarah Jakeman

James was born in Warwick in 1891 and baptised at St. Nicholas Church on 13th September 1891. At that time, his father worked as a Mail Driver for the Post Office.

His father was William Paget and his mother was Sarah (nee Mobley) who was born in Hampton Lucy.

James was the youngest of twelve children – he had six brothers and five sisters.  In 1901 the family were living at 16 Brook Street and 3 children were in the family home at that time.  They were Kate (b. 1898), George (b. 1899) and James (b. 1892).

At the time of the 1911 census, James was living with his parents and 3 of his siblings at 7 Brook Street, Warwick.

One of his brothers, Jesse Phillip, was also killed in France and is commemorated on the memorial.

James left his military pension to a Miss Kate Paget, the wording on the card says ‘guardian of illegitimate child’ – so it may be that James had a child whom he acknowledged before his death.

James’ mother died in 1915 aged 66.
