Glover, Leonard James

Leonard was born in Warwick on 20th October 1886. He was baptised at St Nicholas Church on 15th November 1886. His parents were James William and Harriet Glover. Leonard was the youngest of five children. His siblings were William, Florence, George and Mary.

In 1911 the family were living with two servants at Beechwood, 36 Coten End. Leonard’s father was an agricultural engineer and manufacturer. He had inherited his father’s company, William Glover and Sons in 1881. Leonard’s eldest brother William became manager of the company in 1901.  The firm was to become The Eagle Engineering Company in 1907 and eventually became Dennis Eagle, which continues to trade on the outskirts of Warwick today.

Leonard was educated at Warwick School, Berkampstead School and later at Birmingham University.  By  1911 Leonard, aged 24, was an agricultural engineer.

Leonard married Elsie Mary Hiatt on 2nd June 1917 in Woolwich, London. They were married for just five months before Leonard died. Elsie remained a widow and died in Bournemouth in 1971 aged 85.

Leonard’s father, Mr J W Glover, was a Justice of the Peace
