Thomas was born in Warwick in 1884 and baptised at St Nicholas Church on 13th April 1884. He was the youngest of six children. The four eldest children, all girls, were Hannah, Rose (died in 1887 aged 13), Evelyn and Ada, then brother George, three years his senior.

In 1901 the family were living at 2 Cross Street. Henry, Thomas’ father was a baker. He died in 1909 aged 58. In 1911 just Thomas and his widowed mother Martha were still living at 2 Cross Street. Thomas aged 27 was working as an accountant’s clerk.

Martha died in 1926 aged 74.
