Day, Alfred John

Alfred was born on 30th May 1876 and for much of his life lived in Coventry. He was the eldest child of Alfred and Fanny Day. Unfortunately Alfred’s mother died in 1890, aged only 34, leaving his father with five children to bring up alone.

Alfred John married Harriet Docker on 20^th May 1899, at the time both were living in Howard Street in Coventry, Alfred at number 19 and Harriett at number 20. Alfred and Harriet were still in Coventry in 1901 and in the census Alfred is listed as working a Wagoner.

Between 1902 and 1914 Alfred and Harriet had seven children, all of whom were born in Coventry apart from the youngest, Wilfred Stanley Day who was born in Warwick in 1914.  Two of the children did not survive into adulthood.

In 1911 Alfred was working as a Bricklayer’s labourer in Coventry, which was the job he continued to do on moving to Warwick.
