James Crane was born in Pickard Street, Warwick and baptised at All Saints Church on 2nd March 1893.

James was the eldest child and by 1911, his siblings were Fanny (15) who is a ‘gelatine packer’ (at Nelson Dale), Emily (14) and William (6).  At the time his father was a ‘bricklayer at brewery’ and James is described as ‘general labourer, out of work’.

The family were living at Quarry Street, Milverton, which is just a short distance from the border between Leamington and Warwick.  All the family, apart from William, were born in Warwick.  James is also commemorated on the Leamington Spa War Memorial

 

 

 

James’ father, Robert died in 1912.
