Desmond was born in Warwick in the third quarter of 1922. His parents were Ernest Edward (1894-1971) and his mother Grace Mary nee Linnett (1892-1961).
Desmond had an older brother, Laurie, born in 1921 and two sisters born Ruby and Heather, born in 1924 and 1927. According to te 1939 census the family were living at 44 Charles Street. Desmond’s father’s occupation is stated as slating, plumbing, bricklayer, painter.
