Leslie’s parents were William J Jones (1893-1972) and Frances Ann Jones nee Barnett (892-1973). They had married in Warwick in the fourth quarter of 1917. William had a hardware shop at 2 Market Street, Warwick.

Leslie was born in Warwick in Q3 1921. He had an older brother – William Joseph (1920-1995) and a younger brother Cecil (1925-2010).

According to the 1939 census Leslie’s father was an ARP warden for the duration of the war.

Leslie left his estate of £109 7s 7d to his father as he was not married.  He is buried in Buried in Maynamati War Cemetery, Bangladesh.

This article featured in the Warwick Advertiser on 27th September 1940.  It shows that Leslie was, at that time, enjoying his time in the army and intended to stay on after the war

Leslie was serving with the 14th Army of Burma when he died. He enlisted with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment before being transferred to the Royal Berkshires.

 

 

Leslie’s two brothers, Cecil (1925-2010) and William Joseph (1920-1995), both served in the war and survived.  Leslie and Cecil served together in Burma.  William spent 15 months in a POW camp
