Walter was named for his father and grandfather before him. In 1939, the family were living at 93 Coventry Road, Warwick. Walter’s father is described as a Steel Constructionist and Air Raid Warden. Four of the seven people living at the addess are redacted (blanked out), including Walter. We can see that Walter had a younger brother, Norman (born 7th September 1928).

Walter married Violet Hitchcox in Q2 1942.
