Ted was born Thomas Edward George in Warwick in the last quarter of 1914. His father Thomas William died in 1918 aged 44. His mother was Caroline (1873-1951). Ted was the youngest of four children. He had two sisters Eliza born in 1895 and Dorothy (1898-1982). His brother was William (1902-1961).

Ted married Dorothy Muriel Bartlett in Warwick in 1936. They had one son Donald Edward born in 1937.

The passenger records show that in 1952 Dorothy and Donald, then 14 years old, travelled back from a trip to South Africa on the passenger ship Athlone Castle. Their home address was given as 75 Beauchamp Road, Emscote, Warwick.

Ted obtained his aviator certificate in November 1938 when he was working as a Radio Engineer

Ted was killed alongside Flying Officer Archibald McMeekin (Mac) Paton and the men are buried in adjoining graves in Warwick Cemetery
