Raymond was born in Warwick in the last quarter of 1923. Raymond’s parents, who were both born in Warwick, were married in 1915. Raymond had three siblings Doreen Mercia (1916-2000), Anthony James (1925-1984) and Maurice born in 1929.

According to the 1939 census the family, without Raymond, were living at 56 Miller’s Road, Warwick. Raymond’s father Henry (1890-1962) was working as an Air Force trailer assembler and it was described as heavy work. He had served during WW1 in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Raymond’s mother Hilda Ellen nee Hydon was born in 1892 and died in 1976 aged 83.

The Warwick Advertiser articles tell us that Raymond’s brother Anthony served in the Armoured Corps and his sister – Doreen Mercia Hinson served in the WAAF.
