Ron was born in Canterbury, Kent on 20th July 1914. By the time he was of school age the family had moved to Warwick. Ron attended Westgate School and Leamington College for Boys. He was a well known local sportsman.

Warwick Advertiser 9th August 1940:

According to the 1939 census Ron, aged 24, was living with his parents and his two siblings at 4 Woodville Road. Ron’s father George was a chauffeur. He died in February 1940 aged 59, six months before Ron. Ron’s mother Beatrice continued to live at 4 Woodville Road until her death in 1949 aged 70.

Ron had an older sister, Doris Evelyn (1908-1994). She was a cashier and book keeper and married Walter Hadland in 1941. Ron’s younger brother was Eric Leslie (1915-1996). In 1939 He was Chief Clerk to Warwick Local Government Service.

Ron’s father is listed in the 1911 census as Samuel George, yet his burial slip for Warwick Cemetery is listed as George Samuel.

Ron is buried in Warwick Cemetery and commemorated in the Northgate Methodist Church:

Ron enlisted into the RAF Volunteer Reserve as a pilot in January 1937. He was killed in a flying accident out of Blenheim’s Airfield in Andover. Two others who were in the plane with him, survived.
